DAVID NEAULT LECTURES ON WATER CONSERVATION
EFFORTS AND SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE DESIGN AT THE
EDWARD J. BLAKELY CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE
SUBURBAN DEVELOPMENT

February 19, 2009 – As one of the leading proponents for sustainable landscape architecture, David Neault Associates, Inc. (DNA) has gained recognition for their leading-edge landscape architecture for large and small-scale projects throughout the Western United States and overseas. For over 20 years, the firm has earned a strong reputation for their creative and sustainable landscape solutions for residential, commercial and municipal projects and continue to lead the effort to design landscaping that will stand the test of time.

Recently David Neault, President, was invited to share information on innovative and sustainable landscape architecture and design in Southern California as part of the Randall Lewis Seminar Series held on February 19th at the Edward J. Blakely Center for Sustainable Suburban Development at the University of California, Riverside.

David, along with Paul Rugge ,Chief Administrative Officer of the Western Municipal Water District (WMWD) discussed water issues and provided tips on conservation, landscaping and new technologies to curb water use.  David spoke on best practices in the areas of sustainable landscape architecture, water conservation efforts and the future of landscape design and land planning in states facing impending water shortages. His experience in dealing with these important issues in projects he has worked on in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada bring real life solutions in the development of landscape plans that have regional context and will be sustainable during drought conditions.

David focused on the need for a shift in attitude by builders, developers and homeowners away from large, lush lawns to Xeriscape, a technique that uses much less water by using drought tolerant native plants, natural materials and grass in areas for play or use rather than just for ornament.
He also stressed the use of new technologies such as weather based irrigation controllers and below ground irrigation systems as well as environmentally friendly organic fertilizers.

“I am excited to be able to share my background and experience in designing low sustainable, low-water usage, landscape solutions for residential, municipal and commercial projects with the attendees of the Randall Lewis lecture series. It is important that professionals have an open dialogue on how to deal with the water shortage issues so that we may all work together to overcome these challenges,” said David Neault, President.
